what I can offer you

What can I offer you?

I offer you the chance to talk about whatever is troubling you, and for you to be really heard and understood. I will ask you questions to help you fully understand yourself, and for me to understand you. The approach I use is called Person Centered therapy. This focuses on how you view your world in the here and now, rather than looking for any unconscious motivations to explain how you are feeling.

I will try to help you resolve your concerns by building a relationship where you feel completely accepted and supported without judgement. Of utmost importance to me is the quality of the relationship between us. I see you and myself as equal partners working on resolving your problems together. You will hopefully find me to be genuine and understanding. In line with Person Centered therapy I have a very positive and optimistic view of human nature. I believe that people are essentially good, and that ultimately you the client, know what is right for you.

What can you expect?

To have initial contact with me by phone, email or through my website (without being charged) to explain what’s bothering you, to ask me any questions you have or to book an appointment. If I am unavailable by phone you can leave a message and I will call you back the same day, wherever possible.

Meetings take place in the centre of Bath at The Bath Practice, which has a reception, waiting area and comfortable rooms. Meetings will be 50 minutes long either during the day or evening, Mondays to Fridays. How often we meet and for how long will depend on your needs.

At our first meeting you will be able to talk about what has brought you to counselling, and how you are feeling. We will discuss how we will work together including:

  • Do we feel we can work together?
  • Am I the right counsellor for you?
  • When should we meet, including how often and for how long?
  • Explaining confidentiality
  • How to cancel or re-arrange sessions
  • What I charge
  • Agreeing what we will work on
  • How I work including the professional standards I work to
